About

The Finance and Resources Greystone Leadership Program has been designed to help our people leaders achieve the portfolio’s cultural aspirations to become more customer focused, collaborative and innovative in our service delivery.

The program provides our people leaders with professional development opportunities that:

  • create experiences grounded in the many dimensions of leadership
  • build the skills and competencies necessary to lead people
  • encourage personal and professional growth as a leader

The program is a combination of learning modules that align with Finance and Resources culture, values, and goals, as well as with those of the institution. These modules include reflective practice, theory, and practical application.

One of the most significant benefits of the program has been the cohort-based approach, connecting leaders from across the portfolio for more collaborative, synergistic and innovative solutions, and towards building a shared community of practice.

CAMPUS-WIDE WORKSHOPS

  • Facilitating a Growth Mindset
  • The Working Mind
  • MBTI®/ team development (available on-demand for teams)

Facilitating a Growth Mindset is an internally developed and facilitated workshop (by Human Resources) to help leaders embrace a growth mindset and foster one in others. This workshop was created in support of leaders engaging and connecting with employees well, as part of Career Engagement (our U of S performance framework for CUPE, ASPA and Exempt staff).

The Working Mind is a Mental Health Commission of Canada program designed to address and promote mental health and reduce the stigma of mental illness in a workplace setting.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) supports exploration of self and others in terms of personality ‘Type’ and dynamics.

FACILITATIVE LEADERSHIP

This two-day workshop was created and is facilitated by the Interaction Institute for Social Change (IISC). It is designed to develop leaders’ professional leadership skills in a practical context, connect people, and understand self and systems.

Focus is on practical skills and tools for engaging the creativity, experience, wisdom and commitment of the people with whom you work, and provide a forum for you to explore your challenges and aspirations as a leader.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND DIVERSITY

Created by the Emotional Intelligence and Diversity Institute, the program is internally adapted and facilitated by Human Resources; leaders explore their ability to drive an inclusive culture that enjoys the benefits of increased engagement, collaboration and creativity.

ADAPTIVE LEADERSHIP

This two-day intensive workshop helps leaders adopt an adaptive leadership framework to thrive in and embrace change, and make decisions in challenging environments.

  • using the LPI 360 (Leadership Practice Inventory – based on the work of Kouzes and Posner), participants explore 360 degree feedback, and reflect on tendencies for operating in an environment of conflicting or competing interests (using TKI - Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument); there is opportunity to repeat the LPI 360 a year later
  • the workshop grows the participants’ desire to drive their own learning over time – identifying and embracing areas for change and adapting to ever challenging and evolving environments
