About the Role
The Associate Vice-President, People and Resources provides strategic counsel and oversight for human and financial resources in support of the teaching, research, and outreach activities of the university. This role oversees the organizational effectiveness of financial operations, enterprise procurement, total rewards, safety, labour relations, HR and financial services and support, and organizational development and effectiveness across the university. The strategic focus for the AVP is medium to long term and is implemented through multi-year planning that is aligned with and supports the university’s vision, mission, and values.
The AVP People and Resources oversees human resources and finance related policies and is accountable for policy and regulatory requirements and reporting.
The AVP People and Resources identifies and champions organizational change, while developing proactive partnerships that support the success of the university and its people. The AVP People and Resources develops and promotes the university as a positive, safe, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment.
Cheryl Carver aspires to the goal that all people at the University of Saskatchewan should have the best experience possible—whether teaching, learning or working—and to facilitate this through the responsible use of public funds.
With almost twenty years as an HR professional and leader, Cheryl’s experience has spanned industries that include manufacturing, health care and higher education. Her expertise includes the professional application, and strategic leadership of labour relations, negotiation, recruitment, compensation, benefits and pension administration, training, communication and organizational effectiveness.
A native of Cape Breton, NS, Cheryl has her Master's degree in Industrial Relations from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Cape Breton University. Cheryl also has her Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Jamie advises and informs the leadership team in People and Resources by assisting in decision-making, project management and initiative implementation while overseeing daily operations and developing action plans to address inquiries. Jamie collaborates with people leaders and key staff across Finance and Resources business units in order to assist the AVP and the entire portfolio achieve its goals.
